My beloved Chelas:  

Consciousness is man's individual possession, given to him by the Godhead to evolve according to the choice of his own free will. It is built as a child builds his understanding and relationship to the world by the experiences of everyday life. A new-born infant has little consciousness of the continents and governments and the Universe, but through the passage of years he begins to gather through his senses, through intuition and through experiences, an individual capacity to recognize the Universe as it is, and his relationship to it. In such a manner does the soul, from the very beginning of time, build into its consciousness, by the trial and error method, both Truth and fallacy, the seeker testing all consciousness to find its worth by the Light of the Spiritual Sun, proceeds much more rapidly than the individual who accepts without thought the popular credo of the day. 

The thinner the shell, your outer consciousness, the easier it is for the Ascended Master, who is so often present during the working hours of the chela, to press new thought and give instruction which seems to well up within the Heart, and makes a twenty-four hour process of evolution. 

If you ever tried to speak to somebody through a cake of ice, you have some concept of what both the effort and efficacy of our endeavors are in reaching the average man, and as the sound will not reach and you endeavor to gesticulate, the resultant blur is equally discouraging, but as that melts and the God Beings are able to reach through to the consciousness freely, it is not only an uplift to the student, but a tremendous exhilaration and gratification to those of us who stand and wait.
